Description Tufts University Chaplaincy - Muslim Chaplain Position:
Reporting to the University Chaplain, the Muslim Chaplain provides primary leadership, organization, advising, and support for the Muslim community at Tufts University, and especially for undergraduate and graduate/professional students on all of Tufts campuses. The Muslim Chaplain helps to gather and organize the Muslim community and supports the student leadership by collaboratively coordinating weekly Jumu ah prayer services; coordinating Eid and Ramadan celebrations and support; coordinating a variety of educational, cultural, and social programs for the Muslim community and others interested in learning about Islam throughout the year; and providing pastoral care to all members of the Tufts community as well as connections with relevant service, social justice, and multifaith opportunities. The Muslim Chaplain manages the administrative aspects of the Muslim life program and also serves as a liaison with local, regional, national, and global Muslim resources and organizations. The Muslim Chaplain is expected to provide services that support a pluralistic approach to the Muslim tradition.
As part of a vibrant University Chaplaincy team, the Muslim Chaplain also participates in, supports, and contributes to the multifaith programming of the University Chaplaincy. The Muslim Chaplain works with the University Chaplain to support, advise on, and advocate for the needs of the Muslim community, including religious accommodations for prayer, etc. This position may also include opportunities to teach, and it requires on-call service as needed.
Supports multiple multifaith and Muslim prayer spaces Works with Admissions on outreach to Muslim students and families
Works with Dining Services on halal dining options
Works with Residential Life on Muslim House and other Muslim housing needs
Works with Advancement and Alumni Relations on the Tufts Muslim Alumni Association and fundraising
Works with the University Chaplain and other appropriate administrators regarding religious accommodations for prayer and consultation on other relevant needs
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
Graduate degree or equivalent training in divinity, theology, religion, philosophy, chaplaincy, or a related field
Minimum 2 years of experience in chaplaincy/religious leadership or young adult/campus ministry within and across the Muslim community, which may include internships
Demonstrated experience in multifaith dialogue, engagement, and leadership
Experience in higher education and understanding young adult development through a student empowerment and community-organizing approach
